Boreray Fleeces

The Boreray breed of sheep is native to the island of "Boreray" in the St. Kilda group of islands off the coast of mainland Scotland. They originated in the late 19th century from a cross between the Blackface and a variety of the old Scottish tan-faced group. Boreray fleece is usually pale cream on the body with variable amounts of brown and black on the neck and legs, though some are dark all over. There is a deceptively soft undercoat with a coarser outercoat, which can be separated. Shearling fleeces are often softer, with the outer coat developing with age.
